Meet the team – Ike Erickson, Mike Genge, Kylie Grocott, April Jackman, John Lyons, Lisa Caron, Melanie Cons, Steve Bellan and Mary Genge.
Mary Genge – Partner/Creative Director
Mary has owned Hughes Advertising for 26 years and has extensive experience in market research, marketing and creative promotions for a wide variety of business sectors – public, private, non-profit, and arts. She has the skills to create and write multi-media campaigns, manage and facilitate both quantitative and qualitative research studies, and devise marketing plans and feasibility studies.
Mary sat on the Tri-County Literacy Board of Directors for 7 years and was Treasurer for 3 years. She is currently on the Children’s Treatment Centre Board. She is also very involved with her church and volunteers in many capacities.
John Lyons – Partner
John has spent his entire professional career in the creative arts; most prominently as a founding partner of Bulldog Design Inc. in Chatham-Kent. John is constantly searching for the next big idea and loves the challenge of building a business, a brand or even just a department.
Prior to starting Bulldog in 1996, John was a graphic designer in the advertising department at Tepperman’s Home Furnishing and as a broadcast copywriter and producer. He is also a founding member of the Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (now RGD).
John is an active community volunteer and is currently the vice-chair of finance at the Chatham-Kent YMCA.
Mike Genge – Partner
For 18 years, Mike has used his Business diploma and extensive experience in Marketing to service clients in the public and private sectors. Mike’s strengths lie in identifying each client’s unique products/services and communicating with a targeted market. He has specific experience working with arts and non-profit organizations, helping them move forward through a clear and precise plan and thus enhancing the success of their product offerings.
Mike Chaired the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation Board and led it to a successful $20 million campaign. He was on Board of the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre, where he chaired the Building Committee and oversaw a $2 million addition.
Ike Erickson – Partner/Operations
Ike brings over 35 years of experience in various facets of the advertising industry; from his start as lowly office boy at Paul Phelan and Perry Advertising in Toronto, to Senior Account Supervisor at BBDO Canada. Ike’s experience includes broadcast production, copywriting, media and account management. Prior to co-founding Bulldog Design with John Lyons, Ike spent 12 years in broadcast sales and marketing management.
Ike has taken a leadership role in many volunteer community groups, including the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce where he recently served as president.
Lisa Caron – Graphic Designer
Lisa Caron has been with Hughes Advertising since 2000. She is a Graphic Designer with a fresh eye. Never happy to settle for the norm, Lisa always adds a unique flair to her designs and layouts. Lisa specializes in creative layouts, logos, brochures and multi-page digest-sized books. Lisa is experienced in today’s top graphic design applications, including the Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign). Lisa has exceptional organizational skills and also coordinates project flow.
Lisa has been a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, Copper Terrace Nursing Home and Heritage Days.
Steve Bellan – Graphic Designer
Steve joined the Bulldog Design team in 1999. As senior designer/creative director, Steve offers strong design in both print and electronic media. He takes pride in working with clients throughout the design process, from initial concept to completion. Working on large scale projects such as municipal travel guides, community profiles, industrial directories and rebranding, has given Steve the experience in managing various projects smoothly, keeping the client informed every step of the way.
Steve is a graduate of Fanshawe College’s Graphic Design program.
April Jackman – Web Developer
April has been with Hughes Advertising since 2007. She is our resident web guru turning the graphic design into living, breathing websites using the latest technologies including; Content Management Systems, CSS, SEO, and Social Media Marketing. April offers a fresh perspective and has a keen eye for recognizing and utilizing the latest web development & marketing trends.
Prior experience includes five years as a Web Developer with the Lambton-Kent District School Board.
Kylie Grocott – Graphic Designer
Kylie has been with Bulldog Design since 2005. Currently, Kylie’s job description includes graphic design and coordinating digital and large format print production.
Kylie enjoys seeing first hand how a project evolves from the idea stage, to a finished hardcopy product, and all aspects in between. She has achieved her Graphic Design diploma after completing a three year design program at St. Clair College.
Melanie Cons – Graphic Designer
When Melanie joined Hughes Advertising in 2008 she brought with her exceptional computer graphic skills as well as a unique illustrating talent. Melanie never backs down from a new challenge and is always willing to manage new equipment. She accepts every job given to her with enthusiasm and commitment to excellence.
